Shortage of New homes for sale

Posted by Richard in Property News, 8th April 2010, 3:52pm

There are not enough new family homes on the market  to satisfy demand according to the latest index supplied by smartnewhomes.com,
For this reason, the new homes web site  is repeating its call for government intervention in the house building industry. It wants to see more land released to enable the construction of family homes and substantial and lasting commitment to the sector to address the growing shortfall.
The reinvigorated campaign follows house builder Redrow’s calls for planners to allow for more family-orientated housing. Other housebuilders have also responded to calls from the public for more family homes in their area, re-submitting development plans.
David Bexon, Managing Director of smartnewhomes.com, comments:
“It is a stark fact that the total number of new homes being built has dramatically diminished in the last few years. Conservative party proposals to do away with regional house building targets and a lack of viable development land threaten further reductions in the availability of family homes.
“Planners need to be made aware of the long term stock shortages and work with local authorities to free up public land and prioritise planning applications for family homes.
. As the election draws nearer, political parties should be seriously addressing the issues and not looking for cheap vote winners which will please a small minority and do nothing for the bigger majority.”
John Tutte, Redrow Group Managing Director, comments:
“The country needs over 250,000 new homes to be built each year, the industry currently provides less than half this number. We desperately need more sites to come through the planning system to satisfy the demand for traditional family homes.
“Feedback from our customers tells us they would prefer a more traditional family home.
