House building slowdown pressurises private landlords
Only 118,000 new homes were constructed in 2009, which is well short of the Government’s own target of 240,000.
The financial meltdown forced many developers to mothball their developments and house building in Britain has not dropped to its current level since 1946.
The lack of new housing has put added responsibility on private landlords and the number of people living in rented accommodation has increased every year for the last nine years.
“Private sector landlords now house 14% of Britain’s population,” said David Plaister, MD of LetAssured UK yesterday. “The slowdown in house building creates an ever growing market for private landlords, but potential investors should select their agent with care.”
LetAssured UK Ltd is fully accredited by the National Approved Lettings Scheme. This guarantees landlords and tenants peace of mind in knowledge that they are dealing with a firm which meets defined standards of customer service and has the necessary insurance to protect their clients’ money, plus a customer complaints procedure offering independent redress.
